What are Craft Sticks?
Craft sticks, popsicle sticks, tongue depressors are all the same thing but often found in different sizes. These are thin slices of wood that can be painted, glued together, and used in a number of craft projects.
You can typically find bulk packages of them in various sizes in your craft supply store or craft department at the local store.
If you can't find these in craft areas, you can also look for them in medical supply stores or even in cake decorating areas of the store as they can be used in baking and candy making.
I've used them for things like this popsicle stick jewelry holder, a popsicle stick covered vase, and of course the adorable bird feeder made from craft sticks. There are tons of ideas for using these, so make sure you grab a large package when you find them.
How Can I Secure a Picture Without Damaging It?
To secure the picture to the back of the craft stick snowman, you can use any method you prefer. Glue, tape, sticky pieces, or double-sided tape.
However, if this is a picture you want to reuse or make sure it isn't damaged, I recommend looking in the scrapbooking area of your craft store for acid-free photo tape.
These often come in small dots or squares and are easy to fit into small areas while not damaging the paper or ink of the picture.

How to Make a Snowman Craft Stick Ornament
To make the snowman out of craft sticks, you will first need to paint 4 sticks white on one side. You can paint both sides, but at least the one side of this craft.
While the sticks are drying, you will make your face, hat, feet, and mittens from the colored paper. Begin by tracing and cutting out a black top hat shape.
Next, you will trace and cut out a round white piece for the face. You will also need two red mittens and two black feet to attach to the sticks for the hands and feet of your snowman.
Once all of those have been cut, you will need to cut two of your craft sticks so they will fit the "frame" better. You want them to be shorter so the other two will poke out on the sides for the hands and feet.
Glue the four white sticks together in a frame shape adding the picture to the backside with glue or tape as you prefer. You can also glue another craft stick across the back to help hold everything in place if you wish.
Once the glue is dry on the sticks, you will attach your snowman face and hat.
Next, you will glue on the mittens and feet.
Take a moment to draw a smile, eyes, and nose on the white round face for the snowman.
Attach a loop of ribbon to the top of the hat, and hang from your Christmas tree.
