Do I Have to Use Paper Straws?
I always choose paper straws as they are more environmentally friendly and typically very inexpensive. I've found paper drinking straws in large bulk packages on Amazon for very little.
The best thing about them is that since they are so cheap, you can buy in a multitude of colors and designs. That makes it easy to customize your mason jar vase for a holiday or just to fit the colors of your rooms.
Can I Use Any Jar or Does it Have to Be a Mason Jar?
You do not have to use a specific mason jar for this project. Instead, you can use any wide-mouthed jar for the DIY vase. Condiment jars that have been emptied and washed are also an excellent choice.
Just remove the paper label with some goo gone and you have a great choice for making a vase.
The idea is to make items with what you have on hand, so don't go out of your way to buy a new jar for this project. Use one you have on hand! You can even follow these tips for how to tint a mason jar to add extra color in your jar!
- Wide-mouthed mason jar
- Paper straws
- Artificial flowers
- Craft glue or hot glue gun and hot glue
Begin by washing and drying your mason jar so it is clean and ready to use, then you will begin gluing your straws in place around the jar so they are even with the bottom of the jar, but above the rim of the jar as shown.
Continue this process going around the mason jar creating a pattern with the different patterned straws if desired.
Once you have all of your straws secured and the entire jar covered, you will then add a ribbon around the center.
Now you can add embellishments to the front of the vase like flowers, leaves, or other items.
Fill your vase with flowers and display on your table!
