7 Beautifully Functional DIY Built-In Dressers to Utilize Your Space

Modified: Jul 19, 2021 by Elisabeth Kruger · This post may contain affiliate links · 8 Comments

I’ve always loved built-in dressers and storage because to me, they add a certain sense of luxury. Apart from that, though, built-in dressers are extremely practical because they make the most of your available floor space; without bulky dressers being shoved into corners and just not quite fitting, your room will feel so much larger and more comfortable. When it comes to keeping your home tidy and cozy, you really need to be clever with storage plans and closet organization.

Now if you weren’t lucky enough to move in to a place that already has built-ins for you, the great news is that you just need to get your DIY pants on and do it yourself. I’ve compiled seven great tutorials for different types of built-ins that you can easily make and install with your own hands.

Knee-Wall Dresser

Knee-Wall DresserTypically, a knee wall is a short wall that, for the most part, isn’t load-bearing. What this means is that you can safely cut through it in order to install your own built-in dresser that looks as if it were done by a professional. This is actually quite a simple project that you can get done in about eight hours.

Slanted Walls

Slanted WallsIf you have a room in the attic or top floor where the walls are slanted, you may struggle with dead, unused space that just can’t be used effectively. In these cases, this type of built-in dresser design is ideal since it’ll free up so much space.

Hidden Dresser

Hidden DresserThis is an extremely comprehensive and detailed tutorial that’s broken up into three parts to show you how to build the frame, drawers and how to assemble it all. Just keep scrolling down for all the steps (part two is actually beneath part three).

Dressers and Shelving

Dressers and ShelvingThis tutorial doesn’t involve any cutting into walls – it’s all about fixing the unit to the wall so that it can’t go anywhere. You’ll also see how you can give a store-bought dresser a nice makeover, and add your own shelves on top. It’s such a lovely build and actually, not too complicated at all.

Master Bedroom

Master BedroomThis is a real masterpiece for a master bedroom. I suppose, technically, it’s more of an entire closet unit than just a dresser, but it really is fantastic. It’s incredible to see how a big built-in unit like this can transform an unused bedroom into a master one.

Closet System

Closet SystemIf you have just a small empty nook for a closet, then perhaps you need to do some building to increase the efficiency of the space. The inclusion of the shelves and drawers end up giving you so much more to work with.
