This house number display mixes metal and wood to give it a modern yet rustic look. The backing for the numbers is made from paint stir sticks, which you can get for free at most home improvement stores. Just paint the sticks and attach them to a larger board for support. Then just add your metal numbers and you have a wonderful modern display with a country look.
2. Colorful Mosaic Plaque Display
I love the colors in this plaque and it has such a wonderfully vintage look to it. You can pick this one up on Etsy for around $75 if you prefer not to do it yourself. If you prefer to DIY your project, you’ll need a strip of concrete for the backing, colored glass for the mosaic and then your numbers and you could do those in just about any material.

3. DIY Living Number Display
I love the idea of having a living house number display. This one isn’t actually living – you use faux grass to create it – but it certainly looks like real grass. You’ll need to build a small shadow box to hold the grass and your house numbers. Once done, just glue in the grass and glue your numbers on top. It’s an easy project and one that has so much character.
4. Milk Can Turned Address Marker
If you’re looking for something really unique, and really rustic, you can turn an old milk can into a beautiful address marker. You can typically find these milk cans at thrift stores or flea markets and they’re not terribly expensive. Even if you find an old rusted one, you can clean it up and paint your house number on it. Then just display on the front porch and you’re all set.
5. Rustic Cottage Rope Numbers
If you’re looking to create that coastal vibe, or you’re lucky enough to actually live at the coast, these rope numbers would be perfect. You can create the numbers from rope and attach them to a distressed board or buy wooden or metal numbers and
just wrap the rope around them to make it easier – then attach to an old board that you’ve painted white and sanded to give it that great distressed look.
6. Contemporary Frosted House Number Display
This DIY contemporary house number display is pretty easy to make and it looks really professional. You’ll need a sheet of Lexan which you can get at most home improvement stores. The Lexan is frosted, which makes it a wonderful backdrop against the black numbers. If you prefer a more modern look outside your home, this is the perfect number display.
7. DIY Chevron Number Monogram
I love the idea of incorporating a monogram with your street numbers. You can buy these large wooden letters at any craft store, or make one yourself. Then just paint it in this bright chevron design and add your numbers in a contrasting color. You use spray paint to create the design, which makes it fast and easy and you can pick up all of these supplies at any home improvement store – and they’re not at all expensive.
8. Easy DIY Patio Stone Number Display
Sometimes the simplest ideas are just right there in front of you. If you have a few leftover patio stones or concrete squares, you can turn those into amazing house number displays. If you already have the stones this one isn’t going to cost you anything. You just paint, chalk, or otherwise affix those numbers to your stones and then use those stones to display your street number. Place them in a flower bed or at the edge of your porch.
9. Beautiful Flower Pots Number Display
Put those flower pots to good use, not only showing off your flowers but displaying your house number as well. You can easily paint your street number on those pots and then just set the up outside within site. This is such an easy and creative way to show off your house number and do it in style. Display your lovely pots at the end of your driveway in their own little flower garden.
10. DIY House Number Flower Hanger
What better way to show off those house numbers than with a beautiful plant? This house number flower hanger is really easy and it looks beautiful on the front porch next to your door. You can hang whatever plant, real or fake, that you want and even change it out with the seasons. I love the vibrant green coloring of this hanger, too, although you can paint it in any color to match your exterior.
11. Vintage Plate Holder House Numbers
I love this vintage plate holder and painting your house numbers on plain white plates is the perfect way to display them. You don’t have to spend a fortune on an old plate display rack. You can pick up similar ones at the Dollar Store or Walmart. Then just paint the rack whatever color you need and add your plates with the numbers on them. If you have space in the rack add a decorate plate, too.
12. Standing Planter Number Display
This great flower box gives you a place to display your house number and loads of planting space for beautiful flowers, too. You can easily build this flower planter box from wood that you may have left over from other projects. Add house numbers from your local hardware store, or paint them on if you prefer. Then just attach your box to a pole and you’re all done.
13. DIY Hanging Bucket House Number Sign
Small galvanized buckets, which you can pick up at the Dollar Store for around a dollar each, make a wonderful house number sign. Hang the buckets in a line down an old mirror or picture frame and paint your house number on them. The buckets can then house flowers or succulents to add an extra flair of decoration to the front porch. Hang as many buckets as you need to get your number on there – you could also leave off the frame if your house number is pretty long and just hang the buckets from hooks or nails.
14. Creative DIY House Number Pillow
This is one of the most creative ways I have seen to display your house number. If you have a lounge or bench on the front porch, you can create these lovely pillows, each of which displays one of the numbers from your address. I really love this idea. It’s warm and inviting and gets the job done beautifully. You could also do one large pillow with the numbers if you only have one or two.
15. Stainless Steel House Numbers DIY
If you’re looking for something a bit more industrial, this house number display made from screws is perfect. It takes a bit of work and creativity, but it’ well worth the extra effort if you prefer something a bit more modern showing off that address. You can use large stencils for your numbers and then just fill them in with screws. This is a great modern take on house number signs.
16. DIY Contrasting Color Door Display
If you want to ensure that people can find you and you really don’t want something hanging on your porch or displayed in the yard, you can paint those numbers right on the front door. Using a contrasting color – if your door is red, then use white for instance – you can paint those numbers with stencils. If you have a white door, paint them a darker color, maybe one that matches your exterior.
17. DIY Nautical Buoy Coastal Address Markers
I have to admit, my dream is to live at the coast. Even if you don’t have a house on the beach though, you can make these lovely buoys that perfectly display your house number and give a little nautical feel to your outdoor décor. These buoys are inspired by Pottery Barn – and of course the ocean – and they’re a lovely way to display your house number. You don’t even have to buy wooden buoys – you can make them with wood scraps!
18. Picture Frame House Number Display
This house number display is super easy and super cheap. You need an old frame. Take out the glass and glue in cardstock. I think cardstock in a color that coordinates with your exterior would be lovely. Then you just add your numbers, which you can pick up from any hardware store for a couple dollars, and hang with a nice little ribbon. Depending on the supplies that you have on hand, you can probably make this one for around $5 or so.
19. Colorful Custom Mosaic House Numbers
I love the colors in these mosaic house numbers. If you really want those numbers to stand out, these are perfect. They’re made from a variety of different glass types, all broken down and combined together to make this wonderful color display. The numbers are actually formed from the glass so you could hang these, put them on your porch rails, or think of a number of other ways to display them. You can get these beautiful mosaics on Etsy for under $30.

20. Cheap And Easy String And Nail House Numbers
If you want something really unique, not to mention cheap and easy, this string and nail idea is perfect. Remember making designs at camp with string and nails? This is the same concept. You just outline your numbers, line them out with nails and then join the nails with some colorful string. You can do this on a piece of board, pegboard, or any number of other materials, and it really doesn’t take long to complete.
21. Framed House Number Makeover
That old picture frame – or new frame if you prefer – can be used to make a beautiful house number display. Instead of hanging this one on the door however, you’ll hang it right on the side of your house. The backing is bead board which gives the entire frame display such character. You can paint the bead board to match your front door, shutters, or any other aspect of your exterior décor. Then add your numbers. I love how easy this is and it’ll cost you just a few dollars depending on the supplies that you have on hand.
22. Stair Riser House Number Display
If you have stairs leading up to your porch or up to your front door, you can turn the top stair into a gorgeous number display for your house number. This is a simple project, even if you have to build the stair riser. Once your riser is complete, you just paint the numbers on or attach house numbers that you buy from your local home improvement store.
23. Easy DIY Post Planter
This easy to DIY post planter is the perfect place to showcase those house numbers. First, the post planter is gorgeous and you can hang seasonal flowers or plants to add a little extra décor to the walkway area. This is a complete DIY project, so you’ll do everything from building the post to staining or painting it and even adding the decorative aspects.
24. Solar Lantern House Number Display
You can ensure that your house numbers are seen in the daylight and after dark when you display them on a solar lantern. Don’t let the cost of a solar lantern scare you – you’ll be making this one yourself! It’s a relatively easy project and it will save you a bundle over buying those solar lanterns. Plus, when you put your house numbers on the lantern and hang it from the porch, they’ll be illuminated at night, making your home easy to find.
25. DIY Tile House Numbers
You can find tiles at Lowes and other home improvement stores for less than a dollar each at times. You can use those tiles to create a beautiful house number display. Just attach the tiles to a board or long frame. Paint or attach a number to each tile and then hang on the side of your house or on the porch. You could also use the tiles to hang your house number from the side of a fence. Top off with a burlap ribbon and you have a lovely rustic house number display.
