How to Make an Amazing Ottoman Out of an Old Tire and Some Rope

Modified: Mar 11, 2017 by Vanessa Beaty · This post may contain affiliate links · 1 Comment

I am such a fan of tire projects, as you probably know just from looking around the site. Previously, I have featured projects to turn old tires into beautiful DIY planters or even a stunning pond garden feature.

How to Make an Amazing Ottoman Out of an Old Tire and Some RopeBut those are outdoor projects—which seems only natural, right? It is hard to imagine putting a tire inside the house.

Then again, one guy did imagine doing just that … and then he set out to make it happen. And what he came up with is simply genius: a gorgeous tire ottoman!

You have to appreciate this guy’s creativity. How many people would think, “Hey, an old tire … I’m going to put this in my living room?” This is quite the divergence from the usual garden projects involving upcycled tires.

The idea is ridiculously simple. You take an old tire, and you attach round wood planks to the top and bottom. You then wrap a colorful rope around the tire starting at the top and working your way down to the bottom. You glue it as you go, and by the time you are finished, you can barely tell that your brand new ottoman started out as a plain old tire. In fact, it actually looks incredibly cozy, and it adds a splash of color to the room. It’d get lots of amazing compliments from visitors, I’m sure.

This looks like a relatively easy project, and a great way to upcycle an old tire into something surprising and beautiful. Have fun doing this project, and enjoy resting your feet on your new ottoman! Ready for more tire projects? Check out our 20 Genius Ways to Repurpose Old Tires Into Something New And Exciting post.
