How to Give Old Tires New Life as Beautiful DIY Planters

June 3, 2016 By Vanessa Beaty 5 Comments

How to Give Old Tires New Life as Beautiful DIY Planters {Video}Old tires are absolutely amazing for DIY projects. Last year I learned how you can make a stunning pond feature out of them, and this year I have learned how you can turn them into colorful planters. In this video, Tanya Visser does an amazing job beautifying her yard. Her step-by-step presentation is easy to follow and the results are just gorgeous:

There are so many reasons why this project is awesome! Most of us end up with old car tires at some point or other. Usually I just let the people at the tire shop throw my old tires away when I get them replaced, but next time I am going to bring them right back home to upcycle.

This project is also very easy to customize. You can use larger or smaller tires for larger and smaller plants, and you can paint them with whatever colors and patterns you want. You can stack them as Tanya does as well for an even cooler appearance. It’s really awesome how she continues the design from one tire to the next for a seamless look. Looking at the finished result, I wouldn’t actually realize that these are old tires if I didn’t know better—not without a closer look anyway.

Tanya should be very proud of her beautiful work. Usually I dread having to get my tires replaced, but I am actually excited about it now that I will be able to use them for something awesome!

Would the paint be weather proof? We r thinking of painting tyres for school project and want to know if it won’t come off when wet?

I’m wondering, when using steel belted tires, how does one keep the steel from poking?

No one ever says what they use to keep the dirt from falling through, I could sure use that information.
