Miniature trees are one of our favorite ways to decorate. If you like them as much as we do, then you might want to check out this huge list of festive mini Christmas tree decoration ideas!
What Can I Use for the Tree Leaves?
Making the leaves of this tree is very easy. You can use almost anything you might have on hand. An old shirt or sweater that you no longer wear can be cut up into the leaves. You can also use leftover fabric from another project. Other crafting materials can be used as well, like fake fur or felt. Even things like leftover carpets can be used to make the leaves.
If you do not have some of these materials around the house, you can visit a local thrift store to look for old clothes to use. This is an inexpensive way to get sweaters to use for the project. For the most eco-friendly choice, use sweaters that have holes or stains that others might overlook when they are shopping for clothes.
What Is The Best Base For My Mini Christmas Tree?
When you are making this mini Christmas tree you want to use a solid base. The base can be anything that will stand up well and has a solid base. For my Christmas tree, I am using a wood slice that I have glued a dowel rod to.
You can use anything similar. It can be a hard piece of plastic or you can even use a sturdy piece of cardboard. Another option might even be to use jewelry hangers or doll holders and simply remove the pieces that jet outwards.
How Can I Customize This Fabric Mini Tree?
You can easily customize this fabric mini tree. Besides using whatever kind of fabric you have or want to use, you can also add other things to the tree. Below are a few great ideas that can really jazz up the tree to make it look unique!
- Add mini ornaments to the tree.
- String mini lights around the tree. If doing this just be careful if lighting them that they are not left unattended.
- Spray with glitter spray or fake snow.
- Glue on sequins, beads, or rhinestones as ornaments.
- Add a miniature star or angel to the top of the tree.
- Glue the wood slice to a piece of cardboard or scrap wood and then add a miniature tree skirt around the base. Add presents, miniature reindeer, or similar items to make it look like a real tree scene.
Anything you can add to larger trees, you can replicate on your smaller tree.
How Should I Display My Miniature Christmas Tree?
This mini tree craft can be displayed anywhere in your house. You can place it on the mantle or on shelves around the room. Another fun idea is to make them in different sizes and colors to create a little tree forest as a holiday display.
I also like seeing these as part of a winter village scene or even around a Christmas train if you have one in your holiday decorations. You could even put this as part of a centerpiece on the dining table or side table with a few mini presents around the base.

How to Make a Mini Christmas Tree from an Upcycled Sweater
On a piece of paper, trace a curved edge to create a curved bottom triangle.Cut along this edge then roll the paper into a cone shape and glue or staple to attach and secure.
Using an old sweater, blanket, fabric, or felt, cut small triangles of the fabric. Depending upon the size of the tree, you may need between 40 to 100 of these.
Place the paper cone on a table or over a cup and begin at the bottom gluing the triangles of fabric in place so the points are facing the bottom and the flat edges are facing upwards.
Continue around the cone gluing in place in layers until the entire cone is covered in the fabric.
Glue a dowel into the center of a wood slice.
Slide the tree over the top of the dowel. Add glue to secure at the top of the dowel if desired.
Decorate the tree if wanted then display!
