When it comes to packing for absolutely any type of trip, I hate to admit that I fall into the ‘stereotypical woman’ category of packing way too much. I just can’t help it, though, I just find it important to be prepared for practically any type of situation I might find myself in (this is also why, in general, proper storage has been quite an issue for me). The place I’m going to has a warm climate? Well, what if there’s a freak rainstorm and I’m stuck without my jacket? Or what if I manage to ruin my only pair of shorts? I must bring three more pairs just in case!
This way of over-the-top thinking (at least I acknowledge my flaws…) makes packing the bane of my existence, so expressing my delight and gratitude for the brains behind this outstanding technique is almost too difficult to do with words alone. It would be better suited with a photo of my uncontrollable, excited, wide-mouthed smile, but I’ll save you guys the horror.
So, this brilliant method is all about bundling up all your clothes into one neat little garment parcel that fits perfectly into your suitcase, and, when you unpack, your clothes will be wrinkle-free.

Here’s what to do:
- Start with the largest, bulkiest item, which is a coat or jacket. Lay it down flat with the collar facing downwards and the arms extending outwards.
- Next comes the impossible-to-pack-without-wrinkling (…until today!) collared shirt; place that 180° from the jacket with the collar facing upwards.
- Keep packing the biggest of your shirts/sweaters like this, alternating vertically, with the arms lined up.
- As for the jeans, pants are to be folded in half and placed horizontally onto the pile.
- Keep going with the vertical tops and dresses until you’re all done.
- Bundle up your undergarments, wrap them in a t-shirt, and place that right in the middle of what looks like a clothing star.
- Now for the wrapping! Fold your items up, one at a time, so that you can see the fabric bundle emerge. When you get to long-sleeved items, wrap the arms first and the torso part second.
And that’s it! You’ll be left with what looks like a puffy jacket pillow that can now be put into your suitcase, fitting in everything that you want, and more importantly, ensuring that they won’t be ruined by wrinkles and creases.
