The starting point of any bedroom is a good bed. Not only do you need something that lets you enjoy your peaceful slumber in warmth and comfort, but since the bed acts as the focal point of the room, you need something that looks really good, too. Unfortunately, big, beautiful beds can get very expensive, so if you can find the time to put your hands to work, then you can build your very own gorgeous, customized bed for a fraction of the price.

1. Simple Wooden Frame

I really love the look of this bed frame because it seems very solid and sturdy. That headboard and the integrated light system are what really impress me the most, though! And can you believe, the entire project only cost about $300 to make?
2. Floating Bed

This platform bed uses such a clever design that it truly looks as if the bed is hovering like some sort of alien spacecraft. Very futuristic! The indented platform isnโt visible when looking at it from a regular standing position, and the lights underneath really just add to the drama.
3. King Size Bed

When it comes to sleeping, the luxury of a king-sized bed is an absolute dream (even if you like to think of yourself as more queen-like). Here are some great plans and instructions to build your own big and comfy bed; I just love the white finish!
4. Platform Bed

This lovely, bold, and chunky platform bed was built from scratch at a cost of only $55. Impressive! With free printable plans and some helpful photos to guide you through your build, a good nightโs rest isnโt too far off.
5. Bed with Floating Nightstands

Sometimes I really marvel at the creativity of some people. Iโve never even thought of building floating nightstands onto a bed frame like this, but now that Iโve seen it, I canโt picture my life without it! If youโre keen on recreating this modern structure, then all youโll need is about $400 for all the materials. Not bad!
6. Frame with Wooden Headboard

This bed frame is nice, but I have to say that the headboard is the real showstopper for me. The reclaimed wood just looks so full of character! Thankfully, the process is quite a simple one; making something thatโs sturdy and gorgeous isnโt actually that tough.
7. Simple White Bed Frame

This may look like a regular bed frame, but there are some little touches that really stand out; the bottom plank that connects the two front legs, for example, gives it an elegant touch of modernism.ย Theyโve also included a purchase list for different-sized beds so that you can customize with ease.
8. Upholstered Bed

To me, upholstered beds have always oozed luxury and great comfort, and unfortunately, their price tags reflect that! Hereโs a great tutorial that shows you how to make a queen-sized upholstered bed for yourself without blowing all your savings.
9. Stately King Bed

This bed is big, boastful, in-your-face, and itโs absolutely gorgeous! It looks like something that belongs in a farmhouse or beach house with that rustic wood. You could, however, stain it a much darker color if you want more of a modern twist.
10. Pallet Frame

Reclaimed pallets serve as fantastic sources of material for a number of inventive projects, and a bed frame certainly is not exempt from this list. The pallet bed frame is really easy to make, too, so itโs perfect for novice carpenters.
11. Pipe Bed Frame

Who would have thought that pipes and pipe fittings could be put together in such a way to create this stunning bed frame? I am head over heels in love with this modern industrial look โ itโs just so different! If you get your pipes cut ahead of time, then you wonโt even need a full day to assemble them.
12. King-Size Platform Bed Under $100

Iโve always loved platform beds for their sturdy, no-nonsense design, and building one for under $100? Even better. This project gives you that solid, reliable feel without breaking the bank.
13. Ikea Cabinet Bed

Ok, so this is going to sound strange, but trust that itโs pure genius. Someone came up with the brilliant idea to use doorless cabinets as the basis for a bed frame. This means that not only do you have minimum building work, but you also have extra storage hidden away under there.
14. Twin Platform Bed

Hereโs another clever little hack that uses shelving units to create a twin platform bed. With all that ample storage space, itโs the perfect solution to a slightly smaller kidโs room that needs to maximize floor space.
15. From Box Spring to Platform

This crafty project transforms a regular box spring bed into a reupholstered, upcycled platform bed. If you already have a bed to start with, then you wonโt have to splurge too much on getting it to look as gorgeous and inviting as this one does.
16. Statement Bed

I love furniture that isnโt just functional and comfortable, but that makes a real statement in the room, and thatโs exactly how I feel about this bed. Honestly, those fantastic front legs are what instantly attracted me to this design.
17. Upholstered Colette

If you can avoid spending $1,600 and only have to dish out $270 on materials, then spending a weekend on your own build should be a no-brainer. Plus, you get the satisfaction of knowing that you did this all with your own two hands โ the sleep will be so much sweeter.
18. Platform with Drawers

Storage seems to be an issue with me since Iโm quite a hoarder, so Iโm always looking for helpful storage ideas to keep my clutter organized. This platform bed is the answer to all my problems since it has six large pull-out drawers that I can pack full of shoes and everything else that takes up space.
19. Rustic Romantic

Itโs rustic beds like these that make me want to cuddle up and sleep like a baby forever. Getting out of bed in the mornings would be even more of a struggle if I had to find it in me to roll out of something so beautiful!
20. Wheelie Bed

Hereโs another clever platform bed that integrates a good amount of storage space. The sheer size of this bed is just magnificent, and the fact that it can be wheeled around is just so cute. If youโre the type who loves to change their room around a lot, then those wheels will come in handy!
21. Boat Bed

If you want to be considered the best parent ever, then this boat bed may just help you reach that status. This is, hands down, the coolest DIY bed Iโve come across, and Iโm sure any child would agree. And what makes it even more exciting? Secret compartments!

95% of this stuff is oober expensive. I need a DIY I can find around my house not in my wallet. ๐
Jimbo
So... you need to look around your house.
No-one here knows what is in there except you.

that boat bed looks frightening. I guess I'm just not into kids living on the edge.

Not to sound like a whinger, but it would be worth noting for any person reading the comments before reading this article that you WOULD need access to some fairly serious home tools in order to build most of these. I dont have a jig, router, bandsaw, or anything like that (nor the space or funds to install the aforementioned).
Aso please check your article links, there seem to be some of these that are out of date now.
Kitwench
Not really.
I do a lot of DIY furniture and other projects without any of the above.
My main tools are a drill/driver set, a circular saw, TWO work surfaces/workbench/old dinged up tables the same height - one by the wall and one I can move, and a few clamps.
I recently picked up a $15 hand sander, but then, my hands are getting a bit old for too much hand sanding ๐

Built the Rustic Romantic Bed frame last Christmas and we really love it! Very solid and good looking frame. Now a friend wants to make the same bed, but the link to the plans doesn't work anymore. Is it possible to fix the link or send me the details some other way? Thanks
fred

I'm looking to make a bed in a single room. The room has a box at one end that cannot be moved. Any ideas or advice would be great, please?
