Ask most kids their favorite holiday, and they’ll probably respond with “Christmas,” or “my birthday” (in the case of my youngest, who thinks her birthday is a holiday). But with our kids, it has always been “Easter.” They love painting Easter eggs. I hear about it for weeks leading up to the day we all sit down to do it.
Recently, I thought it would be cool if we tried out some new ways to decorate eggs. Who says we should just paint them every year? While that’s always fun, there are a lot of ways to spruce up eggs for Easter. In the video below, I share 5 fast, easy, and creative Easter egg decorating crafts which are great for kids and adults!
1. Start by hot-gluing a small fluff of cotton to the top of an egg.
2. Wrap some pipe cleaner in a color of your choice around the cotton. Yellow is a good option. You can think of this as whipped cream with a bit of caramel drizzled on top.
3. With your markers or pens, draw “sprinkles” all over the egg in a few different colors.
4. Get some brown construction paper and wrap it into a cone shape. Put the egg on top of it. Alternately, if you actually have ice cream cones on hand, you could just use those.
2. Bird Egg
Materials:
Egg
Hot glue and glue gun
Googly eyes
Construction paper
Bows
Feathers
Cup for the egg
Steps:
1. Begin by using hot glue to attach the googly eyes to the egg. Cut the construction paper into a beak shape and attach that as well.
2. Next, attach some feathers to the back of the egg to create a large tail.
3. Next, add a bow to the top of the egg as an embellishment. Set the egg inside a cute ornamental cup, and maybe add another bow or any other decorations you would like.
3. Bunny Egg
Materials:
Egg
Felt
Pen
Cup
Hot glue and glue gun
Steps:
1. Cut the felt into the shape of two bunny ears.
2. Using the hot glue gun, attach the ears to the egg.
3. Use the pen to draw a bunny face.
Set the bunny egg inside a cup and put it on display.
4. Egg with Straw Hair
Materials:
Egg
Hot glue and glue gun
Pen
Bow
Straw
Googly eyes
Steps:
1. Use hot glue to attach googly eyes to the egg.
2. Hot glue some straw to the top of the egg to serve as “hair.”
3. Glue a bow on top.
4. Use a pen to draw on eyebrows, a mouth, and freckles. Put the egg in a cup to display.
5. Surprised Egg
Materials:
Egg
Googly eyes
Hot glue and glue gun
Bow
Cup
Steps:
1. With the hot glue gun, attach the googly eyes to the egg.
2. Use a pen to draw a surprised mouth on the egg and any other facial features you want.
3. Set the egg in a cup to display, and add a cute bow if you want.
See—there are a lot of ways you can decorate Easter eggs that go beyond just painting them. I hope that you enjoy doing these crafts with your kids!
