Build Your Own IKEA-Style Platform Bed Out of … Kitchen Cabinets

Build Your Own IKEA-Style Platform Bed Out of … Kitchen Cabinets {Free Instructions}There are a lot of cool DIY ideas for building a bed frame, but here is one that will surprise you. Instead of building it out of pallets or plywood, you are going to be using … kitchen cabinets. That’s right, you heard me right. With kitchen cabinets, you can actually create a really cool IKEA-style bed!

I always am interested in projects to build and transform bed frames and headboards. Most of those projects use predictable materials like plywood and pallets, but I just found a really cool one that uses a very surprising material: kitchen cabinets.

Completing this project will allow you to build an IKEA-style platform bed. I love this bed for several reasons. First of all, this is an absolutely genius way to re-use kitchen cabinets! If you happened to be remodeling both a kitchen and a bedroom at the same time, it’d be perfect. Secondly, I love how much space there is here. If you needed to set something down next to the bed, it’d be easy. At the same time, there is a ton of storage inside the cabinets themselves.

This would be an excellent choice for a small bedroom where you need to use as much vertical space as you can. It would also work really well in a child’s bedroom I think. Kids usually have a lot of stuff in their rooms, and the cabinets offer easy storage, which can then free up some floor space and reduce the clutter in the room. Kids also would enjoy the convenience and fun of being able to store stuff under the bed.

I have to say that the finished bed has a very cozy look to it. This is a very involved project, but the video is great and can at least get you started on it. It is definitely one of the most brilliant bed frame projects I’ve ever seen!
