Can you really make your own OxyClean? Why, yes, you can, and we have a fabulously frugal recipe for you. OxyClean is great as a pretreatment for stains and soils, but just like anything else, it is either expensive or filled with chemicals that you just don’t want to use in your home.

To make your own, you just need water, washing soda (note that you can also use baking soda), and hydrogen peroxide. Just mix equal parts of peroxide and washing soda with twice as much water. For instance, mix 1 cup of water with ½ cup each of washing soda and peroxide.

Note that this is a liquid recipe, so you can mix it in a spray bottle and then use it to pretreat stains or just anywhere that you would normally use OxyClean.

You can find washing soda at most grocery stores and stores like Walmart, or again, you can just use baking soda if you prefer.

Baking soda & washing soda are not interchangeable. They are chemically similar, but one is a carbonate, one a bicarbonate.

if you make a mixture of hydrogen peroxide, dish soap and baking soda ( ratio you will find of the internet) it makes a fantastic wash for your "skunked" pet. In 10 minutes the smell was gone, fortunately our dog is white so we could really notice the difference. Beats tomato juice which does not work anyway. 🙂

After mixing the ingredients, I put the mixture in a spray bottle and closed it shut. But not too long after, I went back to it and the solution was all over! Like, the spray bottle practically exploded. What did I do wrong?

Is there a way to make Oxi Clean in powder form to add to my laundry as the store bought Oxy Clean?

Stains from oral surgery were not removed from the sheets after using oxyclean as a pretreatment and in the wash, so I rewashed using borax. All stains are gone.
