Kitchen Life-hack: Peel Carrots and Other Root Vegetables in Under Ten Seconds

Kitchen Life-hack: Peel Carrots and Other Root Vegetables in Under Ten Seconds - Brilliant idea!Do you dread that step in your recipe that calls for peeling carrots? If so, you aren’t alone, but you won’t have to dread it anymore once you learn how to peel carrots like a real professional! On this video, you can watch a quick tutorial for peeling carrots. It takes only around 40 seconds to watch, and you’ll be peeling carrots even faster than that!

Video Instructions:

Right now, you probably peel your carrots over the trash can, right? It may seem like a time-saving idea in theory (and a mess-saving idea), but it does introduce some problematic issues. First off, if you drop a carrot (and who doesn’t occasionally), that’s one carrot wasted or one carrot you have to dig out of the trash and wash really thoroughly. Secondly, you are probably peeling in just one direction. But your vegetable peeler has two blades! Why aren’t you using them? You’re doing twice as much work as you have to.

Stop worrying about where the peels are going to go and work over a cutting board and not a trash can. Hold the large end of the carrot over the cutting board at a 45 degree angle. The pointed end should be resting on the board. Start at the middle of the carrot and run the peeler downward as you usually would—but then rotate the carrot and pull the peeler upward. Continue with the up-down motion as you rotate, and then flip the carrot over and do it again, and ta-da! Your carrot is peeled. It goes amazingly fast in the video. Check it out!
