Rubber bands always come in handy when you want to keep things together (like your mail), but these cheap little loops of rubber can improve your life in so many other ways; from painting and packing, to taking photos and driving in the right direction!

But whatever you do, just don’t use them as hair ties; the pain from pulling out clumps of hair just is not worth it.

1. Keep Clothes on Hangers

It’s pretty frustrating to open your closet only to find your beautiful dress lying in a crumpled pile on the floor. Stop your clothes from sliding off their hangers by wrapping rubber bands around both ends of the hanger.
2. Keep Door Unlatched

If you’re moving into a new house, gardening outside, or doing anything else that requires you to keep going in and out through a door with your hands full, use this rubber band trick to keep the door open so that you can get through hassle-free.
3. GPS Mount

Don’t want to splurge on a GPS or phone mount for your car? You can easily connect your smartphone or GPS to your rear-view mirror using just two rubber bands. It’s cheap, safe, hands-free, and easy to do!
4. Keep Your Power Cord from Slipping

Short laptop power cables are the bane of our existence! They easily slip off tables, either unplugging themselves, or worse: taking the laptop down with them. All you have to do to keep the power brick from slipping off is wrap some rubber bands around it so that it grips the table surface.
5. Remove Stripped Screw

Struggling to remove that screw? A wide rubber band placed between the head of the screw and the screwdriver will help fill the gaps, thus allowing you to at the very least loosen the screw. Make sure to apply pressure and turn slowly.
6. Pack Snugly

Let’s face it, most women don’t really know what it means to pack light; packing always seems to become a stressful affair when trying to fit everything in, and deciding what to part with. If you need more space than you seem to have in your suitcase, roll your clothes up into tight little bundles and secure them with rubber bands.
7. Limit Your Soap Dispenser

A rubber band around the neck of the dispenser will limit just how much soap comes out. You’ll be surprised to see how much you actually save; you still get enough to thoroughly wash your hands without wastage.
8. Phone Tripod

Don’t want to spend money on a tripod for your phone? Secure it to a jar with rubber bands, and there you go! You can snap away without the extra expense.
9. Paint Brush Scraper

Scraping the excess paint off the brush on the rim of the paint can makes it really difficult to open and close the can again properly after all that wastage hardens. Rather, put a large rubber band around the can so that you can wipe the brush on that and allow the excess to drip back into the can.
10. Stabilize Cutting Board

Have you ever had an unfortunate (and painful) knife accident thanks to a cutting board sliding all over the counter? Prevent yourself from experiencing the same fate by simply slipping a rubber band on each end.
11. Makeshift Wallet

If a bulky wallet simply takes up too much space in your handbag, just keep your cash and cards together by wrapping up your little bundle in rubber bands. It’s a super easy and cheap solution for saving space.
12. Lid Opener

Struggling to get that pesky nail polish or jar open? Simply wrap a rubber band around any lid to give yourself some extra grip.
13. Drink Marker

If you’re having some friends over and everyone’s enjoying the same type of beer or wine, simply mark the bottles and glasses with color-coded rubber bands to avoid any confusion (or sneaky drink thieves!).
14. Secure Pot Lid

If something’s boiling rapidly in your cooker and you need to keep the lid down, secure it with two rubber bands. This also comes in handy if you’re transporting pots.
15. Keep Books Closed

The more items you shove in your bag, the more likely you are to ruin the books inside as something slips in between the pages, causing them to tear or fold. Put a rubber band around the book to keep it closed and prevent any possible damage.
