You’ve certainly heard that one man’s junk is another man’s treasure. Well, with this collection, I’ve virtually proven it.

bed spring projects diy

I found 15 different ways that you can use old bed springs, and these are easy projects that look amazing when completed.

Jump to:
  • 1. Spring Vase
  • 2. Vintage Bed Spring Wreath
  • 3. Spring Jar Candle Holder
  • 4. Mini Plant Holder
  • 5. Photo Display
  • 6. Recipe Holder
  • 7. Birds’ Nests
  • 8. Candle Holder
  • 9. Garden Trellis
  • 10. Wine Charms
  • 11. Spring Pin Cushion
  • 12. Jewelry Organizer
  • 13. Bulletin Board
  • 14. Fry Caddy
  • 15. Room Divider (the project is about halfway down the page)

1. Spring Vase

Spring Vase

This vintage spring vase is gorgeous, and no one will ever know that you made it yourself from an old bed spring.

You’ll need one spring and a test tube, which you can pick up at just about any craft or school supply store.

Then you literally just stand the test tube up inside the spring and you’re done. You can paint the spring or sand it down if it’s rusty, or just leave it as it is.

2. Vintage Bed Spring Wreath

Vintage Bed Spring Wreath

Whether you’re looking for a wreath for the front door or one to add a bit of rustic charm to your living room or other area inside the home, this wreath made from old bed springs is a great choice.

What’s really great about it is you can decorate it or embellish it however you want, so it’s completely customizable to change with the seasons.

3. Spring Jar Candle Holder

Spring Jar Candle Holder

A small jelly jar and a bed spring put together create a stunning candle holder, and this is something that takes less than five minutes to create.

These easy to make candles would be great for weddings or outdoor events this summer. You literally just place a jelly jar inside the bed spring, and that’s it! Imagine having these around the house or using them for citronella candles on the patio.

This is such an easy project and one that you can customize depending on how you want your holders to look.

4. Mini Plant Holder

Mini Plant Holder

You can put those old bed springs to really good use by making them mini plant holders. I’m saying mini because you won’t be putting a huge planter in these, but a standard size should work pretty well.

Just push the planter down into the spring just a bit so that it’s sturdy, and you’re ready to display those plants in a more vintage way.

5. Photo Display

Photo Display

I absolutely adore this picture holder made from old bed springs. You’ll need a few more supplies for this one than for others, but it’s definitely worth it.

You just attach the springs, or parts of them anyway, to a board and use them to hold up your pictures.

This is such a neat way to display those old black and white photos or if you don’t have old photos, print some out in black and white.

6. Recipe Holder

Recipe Holder

You know you need something in the kitchen to hold those recipe cards while you cook. Why not use an old bed spring?

This is so cute and such a neat gift idea for anyone who loves to bake or cook. Just clean up the spring a bit, it’s going to be in the kitchen after all, and you can attach a holder to the tip to securely hold those cards in place.

7. Birds’ Nests

Birds’ Nests

These are really neat and such lovely décor. Make your own little decorative birds’ nests and display them using old bed springs.

I love the rustic and vintage charm of this idea and it would look great in any room in the house. This gives you such a great opportunity to get creative and make them however you want.

8. Candle Holder

Candle Holder

This is a great idea too, and a wonderful way to display those larger candles. You’ll need to sort of push the candle into the spring to make sure it doesn’t slip, especially if you plan on lighting it.

Once you’ve got your larger candle secured, just attach whatever you want to decorate the candle holder and you’re all set.

9. Garden Trellis

Garden Trellis

If you’re looking for a way to use the entire bedsprings, this garden trellis is a wonderful idea. You literally just stand it up in the garden and let your vine type plants climb it.

You can use this once you’ve taken off the springs you want for other projects, so that the rest of the box springs doesn’t go to waste.

10. Wine Charms

Wine Charms

If you love wine, and let’s face it – everybody loves wine, then this is a great project. You can make this rustic wine charm holder from an old bed spring and use it to display your wine bottles beautifully.

Just twist the spring down over the bottle and hang your charm on the end. It’s so simple!

11. Spring Pin Cushion

Spring Pin Cushion

Use those old springs to create this stand up pin cushion. It’s such a simple idea and a project that won’t take long, but the end result is amazing! You will wonder how you ever got along without this.

You’ll need to sew a bit with this one, and use a little paint but overall, it’s a super easy project.

12. Jewelry Organizer

Jewelry Organizer

If you want to use the entire box springs, this jewelry organizer is perfect. Seriously, you just hang it on the wall and add your jewelry.

What could possibly be easier? You can also paint or sand it down first if you want, depending on the look that you’re trying to achieve. It’s an easy project and one that will help you keep all your jewelry perfectly organized.

13. Bulletin Board

Bulletin Board

Here’s another great way to use your entire bed spring. This works best for smaller spring sets like twin beds, but if you really wanted to, you could use a larger one. A baby bed spring will be perfect.

You can use whatever fabric you want to customize it and make it match your office décor. Or, put it in the kitchen for holding recipes, bills, or other things that you need to get to quickly.

14. Fry Caddy

Fry Caddy

This fry caddy is great and really looks like those that you find in high end stores. You can do this in so many ways, but you start with an old box spring. Just remove however many springs you want depending on how many of these fry caddies you plan to make, and the rest is easy.

15. Room Divider (the project is about halfway down the page)

Room Divider (the project is about halfway down the page)

Take that old box springs, add a few lights, and you’ll have a wonderful room divider. This could also be a great addition to your patio to create a bit of privacy on one end. However you use it, it’s really easy and won’t cost much at all depending on the lights that you choose. I love how rustic it looks!

If you would grant me the liberty of describing the "15 Brilliant Ways to Repurpose Old Bed Springs {Trash to Treasure}" as one end of a scale; DIY projects that most of us could satisfactorily undertake and successfully complete, then I would propose that the Bald Eagle sculpture of artist Jack Price, made from bed springs and bailing wire is the distant other end. Reach of the Bald Eagle, top right of page. http://naturesculpted.com/Award_Winning_Sculpture_For_Sale.html
You've got to see it, and even then it's hard to believe the recycled result.
