St. Patrick’s Day is just around the corner. If you’re Irish – and even if you’re not – I’ve got a wonderful collection of crafts that you can share with your children and show off that Irish pride. Kids love crafting – almost as much as we adults do – and to make things really fun, I’ve added some really neat ways to create shamrocks and other St. Patrick’s Day themed activities.
From slime and play dough to shirts and necklaces, I promise there is going to be a project in here that you are going to want to share with your little ones. There are a few really great learning activities that incorporate fine motor skill development and even a science craft project! I love sensory projects, like this one that teaches how to blow bubbles in slime, and other learning activities. This project list has so many wonderful things that you can share with your children and teach them amazing skills.
There are things for kids to wear, things for them to decorate the house with, and even things for them to just have fun. Kids crafts are the best and I adore spending time with little ones at the kitchen table learning and crafting. You’re going to love it, too. Most of these projects require only a handful of supplies, and many of them use things that you probably already have on hand. 1. Painted Shamrock
This shamrock is easy to make and you only need a few supplies. To make the perfect shape, cut a bell pepper and use that to stamp the painting. Just paint around the pepper and press firmly to paper. Then kids can decorate around the shamrock however they want. Plus, green pepper is a yummy and very healthy snack that you can have while you’re enjoying craft time.

2. DIY Beaded Shamrocks
These beaded shamrocks are really cute and making them helps to develop fine motor skills. You can find the supplies for these at most craft or hobby stores. You will need pipe cleaners – in green and shiny if you can find them – and pony beads, which you can actually get at Walmart and they’re pretty cheap. Kids will adore making these and again, they help to develop those much needed motor skills because of the folding and feeding the beads onto the pipe cleaners.

3. How To Catch A Leprechaun
Legend says that if you are lucky enough to catch a leprechaun, he has to tell you where his gold is hidden. How much fun will it be to build this leprechaun trap with your little ones? You need a pint basket, like the ones that strawberries come in, a stick and some string. Of course you also need a snack, and leprechauns do love Lucky Charms, right? Kids will love waiting to see what their little trap produces, and you can appease them – not with a leprechaun of course – with some gold coins or even golden coin candies.

4. DIY Clay Pot Leprechaun
This little clay pot leprechaun is easy to make and will be the perfect St. Patrick’s Day decoration for your porch or deck. You need a terra cotta pot and some felt and other fabrics. I’ve seen this done with a second clay pot for the head if you prefer to go that route, or use this pattern and make his head and hat from felt. Either way, he’s going to be a favored St. Patrick’s Day craft among your kids.

5. Shamrock Canvases
These shamrock canvases give your kids their own creative avenue. They can paint them however they want. You’ll start with a canvas and a cut out shamrock. Then, kids just paint around the shamrock and maybe even add some embellishments like rhinestone gems or even stickers for younger ones. This is a great craft for all ages.

Not all St. Patrick’s Day crafts incorporate green shamrocks. This easy to make necklace is a good example. This is sure to be a hit among the girls in your house. It’s cute and really easy for kids to make – plus it has loads of color.

7. Magical Rainbow Wands
These magical rainbow wands ae easy to make and only require a few craft supplies. You’ll need white felt, stuffing, long lollipop sticks, and some ribbon in different colors. Girls are going to love making and using their own rainbow magic wand, and this is a great project to keep them busy when it’s too cold to get outdoors.

8. Easy And Colorful Dot Art Shamrock
Do A Dot Art markers are great for little ones. They’re markers but specially designed to color in dots. They make this colorful dot art shamrock really easy. You just draw the shamrock out and have kids fill in green around the outline. Then let them be as creative as they want, filling in the inside of the shamrock in different colors. The end result is a lovely rainbow shamrock that kids will have a blast making.

9. Easy Colored Rainbows
Toddlers and preschoolers love drawing. If you have little ones, and they want to make a rainbow, there is a really easy way for them to do it. Just wrap some ribbon or even a rubber band around your crayons of different colors, and then let them swipe back and forth on the paper. They’ll create the perfect rainbow of colors and be so proud and you’ll have a lovely picture to grace the refrigerator.

10. Fun Edible Rainbow
This edible rainbow is as pretty as it is delicious. You start with gel icing – to keep it all in place – and add mini marshmallows at the base for the cloud. Then create your rainbow with colored cereal like Fruit Loops, and finish with a shiny cupcake paper that you fill with gold chocolate coins or Rolos. 11. End Of The Rainbow Twirlers
Whether you’re planning a party for St. Patrick’s Day or you just want some colorful decorations that kids can make, these twirlers are perfect. You make them with paper plates, paint, and black and yellow paper. Paint the paper plate and then cut it to make the twirl. 13. Felt Rainbow
You can get squares of colored felt at most craft stores for less than 50 cents each. You can use those squares to create a beautiful felt rainbow that kids are going to love making and displaying. Just cut the squares into smaller squares and let them create their own little rainbow with glue and construction paper. Add cotton balls for clouds and some gold coins – plastic ones of course – for the pot at the end of the rainbow.

14. DIY Telescope – For Finding The Pot Of Gold
This telescope is so colorful – and it’s perfect for helping to teach toddlers their colors. To make it, you’ll need craft foam in different colors, hot glue and scissors, and for the end, you’ll need an old mason jar lid and some clear cellophane. How much fun will kids have looking through their telescope for the gold at the end of a rainbow?

15. Fine Motor Sparkly Shamrocks
These sparkly shamrocks are also great for developing fine motor skills, which makes them perfect for toddlers and preschoolers. You’ll want an adult or older child to draw out the shamrocks and then the younger children sprinkle salt over the wet glue – which is what you draw the shamrocks with – and then add green liquid to make them St. Patrick’s Day colored. This is also a great visual activity as they can watch the green liquid completely overtake the white glue and salt.

16. Glitter Rainbow
Here’s another wonderfully colorful rainbow that your children will love creating. The rainbow is made from strips of colored paper. At the end, you can attach adorable little golden glittery hearts and be sure to add cotton balls for the clouds. These are really gorgeous when they’re finished and they are the perfect craft for children of all ages.

17. Layered Felt Rainbow Magnet
Not only is this rainbow magnet easy and fun to make, it’s a magnet so your little ones can display it on the fridge or anywhere that there’s metal to attach it to. Just cut felt into strips to create the rainbow, glue them together and then add a magnet to the back. Hot glue will probably work best, especially to hold the magnet in place.

18. DIY Leprechaun Hat Treats
These leprechaun hat treats are great for kids if there’s a party at school, or you could just make them at home for a yummy St. Patrick’s Day treat. You can get these gorgeous glittery shamrock stickers at the Dollar Store for a dollar – and there are several in a package. Start with clear, tight locking food containers that you will paint green. Then add a black ribbon at the base – while the bowl is upside down and after the paint has dried – and stick on a shamrock sticker. Fill the bowl with gold chocolate coins or Rolos.

19. Little Leprechaun Peg Dolls
As far as St. Patrick’s Day kids crafts go, this one is probably my favorite. Your little ones will create their own little leprechauns using wooden spools and wooden beads. You need felt in a number of colors, brown paint and a few other supplies. Little ones can decorate their little leprechauns however they want and even make an entire little people family. They’ll love making these as much as they love playing with them.

20. DIY Leprechaun Popcorn Hat
Kids love popcorn, at least mine do, so this popcorn hat is the perfect craft for St. Patrick’s Day. You’ll need green, yellow, and black construction paper, some tape or glue, and a small paper plate. Of course, you’ll also need popcorn. When this is finished, it would be wonderful to have a family movie night and let the kids have their popcorn in the hats that they created.

21. Leprechaun Trail
I love this idea! It’s a trail that is sure to lure even the smartest leprechaun to your home. Using old baby shoes and some green chalk, create little footprints up the sidewalk to your house. Then, let the kids draw a rainbow. Leprechauns are sure to want to visit the house at the end of the rainbow!

22. Easy Leprechaun Wall Hanging
Remember these cute little leprechauns from school? If you’ve never made one, I bet your children have. They are adorable and so very easy for kids to create. Use a paper plate for the leprechaun’s face and then construction paper for his hat, body, and arms and legs. Kids can draw on the face and you could even use orange yarn to give him hair.

23. Lucky Crown Of Clover
Get some outside time while you pick up the clover for this adorable crown. Most lawns have patches of clover and looking for it can be really fun for little ones. Once you’ve found your clover, let them grab a fistful. Then, you’ll attach the clover to a band that you make from green construction paper, and voila – they have an adorable little natural inspired crown to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.

25. Popsicle Stick Leprechaun
Kids love popsicle crafts and they’ll really love this popsicle stick leprechaun. This is so easy that even little ones can do it. Just line up eight sticks for the head and had and then add one across for the hat band. Kids then paint the sticks to resemble their favorite leprechaun. You could even add some googly eyes to make the really special and maybe a magnet on the back so they can hang him on the fridge.

26. Pot Of Gold Paper Plate Craft
This pot of gold paper plate craft is filled with glittery gold! Well, not really, but your little ones are going to love making it anyway. You use a paper plate for the pot of gold and then small golden circles, which add sparkle with their yellow sequins. You can add green sequins as well to give the entire project more sparkle.

This gorgeous rainbow wall flag can easily be made by little ones – with help depending on how little – and is so colorful! 32. Rainbow Wind Chime
This rainbow wind chime is a bit complicated for kids with its tin cans and rotary tools, but you can make it from paper cups just as easily if you want something that kids can do unsupervised. Or, supervise them and do all the hard parts and they can make this just as it is. You use tin cans in different sizes and paint them rainbow colors. Then attach golden pipe cleaners to hang it up.

33. Salt Dough Clover
Salt dough is one of the most fun crafts that kids can do. What’s really great is you can make just about anything from salt dough and kids can easily make the dough themselves with minimal supervision. If you don’t have a shamrock cookie cutter for this, you can use a small heart cutter and just cut three or four hearts for each shamrock. Then just add the stem.

34. Shamrock Crystals
These shamrock crystals are exciting to make and to look at when they’re finished. They have borax in them, which you can find at most grocery stores in the laundry aisle. You’ll also need mason jars, pipe cleaners, and a few other key supplies. Kids are going to love making these sparkly shamrocks and decorating with them when they’re finished. Note, borax should never be ingested so supervise younger children carefully.

36. Shamrock Sprouts On A Sponge
I am such a huge fan of any kids craft that teaches about growing things. This shamrock sprouts on a sponge craft is perfect for helping kids to understand how things grow and to get them excited about watching their little sprouts. 40. Easy DIY Paper Shamrocks
Strips of green paper glued or stapled together create these lovely shamrocks and they’re quite bubbly. Instead of a dull, flat paper shamrock, help the little ones make these full shamrocks that literally stand alone. This is a great project for giving the kids something to do and using up a few old mason jars. 45. Easy DIY Wine Cork Shamrocks
Shamrocks can be difficult to draw, even for adults, which is what makes this wine cork shamrock such a great project. You just tape three wine corks together, dip them in green paint, and let kids make stamp art! This is a wonderful project – it’s so easy and so inexpensive and they could make any number of things with the stamps. If you don’t have some old wine corks lying around, you can buy them at most craft stores and get an entire bag for just a couple of dollars.
